This project was based on two concepts; contemporary art and emotional memory.
Those concepts were explored in the form of a menswear collection on that I could express my Chilean heritage and be proud of it.
The chosen contemporary artist was Nicanor Parra, due to being an outstanding art reference thanks to his limitless creativity and especially because of his Chilean origin. Taking that into account, Chilean ancestry is going to remain an important part of the collection, acting as a reflection of my emotional memory, specifically as an element of Chilean essence.
To create the color palette, an analysis of the artwork that best matched with the ideal consumer's taste was developed. Moreover, a series of digital textile patterns were produced, based on the graphic and old-fashioned techniques of the artist combined with manual color studies.
Additionally, there were variations in three looks of the collection. Those modifications were three per garment, where color and prints variated in order to include more diversity in the project. Also, for every garment out of those three looks, spec sheets were created. These contained a list of the materials needed, operational sequence, technical draw, and specifications to elaborate on each piece.
One of the most important parts when making a fashion collection is prototyping. Experimenting with the pieces is key, due to the fact that all of the previously conceptualized elements turn into something physical that can be altered. In this case, the prototype helped to bring closure to this collection.
